4 Reasons You Aren’t Losing Weight Despite Dieting

losing weight

Do you feel like you’ve been trying to lose weight forever but just haven’t seen any results? Sometimes we do things that we think can help aid weight loss but it turns out to do the complete opposite for our body. Apart from over eating and not eating healthy, here are six reasons you aren’t losing weight…

You aren’t eating enough

Eat more to lose weight? Surely that’s not right? Cutting Edge Head Coach Dean Weiss says, “Although this may seem counter-intuitive, the truth is if you’re not eating enough, chances are you won’t lose the weight. “I see people eating less and then working out for an hour to an hour and a half each day. And they say, ‘I should be losing weight. But why aren’t I?’ Dean says, “This is because there’s not enough energy going in to fuel your workouts, so the metabolism slow down.” What you need is to eat small portions more frequently.

You’re not strength training

There is a misconception that strength training is only for people who want to do body building. The fact is, strength training is an essential part of weight loss. How so?

When you strength train, you’re actually breaking down the muscles in your body. It actually recruits tons of muscles causing you to burn significant calories during your workout.

Annie Wallace’s amazing transformation involves strength training.

But the fat burning does not just stop there. Even after you finish training, after you go back home and sit on your couch and watch Netflix, your body’s metabolism still continues to operate at a heightened pace as you rebuild your muscles stronger than before.

This can continue for upwards of 36 hours after you finish training. 36 hours! So if you are not strength training, you’re missing out. At Cutting Edge, we welcome anyone who wants to lose weight and get fit. No judging, just getting fit. Whether you have never carried weights in your life or have done it before, our coaches are ready to help you. Grab this FREE TRIAL right here.

You’re stressed

When you’re stressed you’re likely to eat more and at the same time your body also may be less likely to lose weight. Damn it! So even if you’re eating healthy, if you’re stress eating, your body will end up with more than it really needs. Exercising is good to relieve not just stress but also anxiety and depression. You’re not sleeping enough

Sleep deprivation does not only cause you to be moody and lose focus but can also sabotage your waistline and your health. But how exactly does sleep deprivation ruin weight loss?

The two hormones that are key in this process are ghrelin and leptin. Ghrelin is the ‘go’ hormone that tells you when to eat, and when you are sleep-deprived, you have more ghrelin. Leptin is the hormone that tells you to stop eating, and when you are sleep deprived, you have less leptin. More ghrelin + less leptin = weight gain. You are eating more, plus your metabolism is slower when you are sleep-deprived.
